Bolton Coroners Court- Video Conferencing Room Integration
The Client and The Challenge
Bolton Coroner’s Court handles sensitive, formal inquest proceedings where clear communication, accurate record-keeping, and respectful decorum are paramount.
Their vision was to ensure that judicial standards are upheld, that the room could facilitate hybrid hearings, remote witness testimony, and seamless digital evidence presentations. Acoustics, recordings and digital evidence had to be presented in a crisp, clear format to prevent audio feedback/ echo and ensure evidence and dialogue were conveyed accurately and clearly.
Green Monkey AV have partnered with the court and local authority over many years, and we have built a trusted, long-standing relationship and a deep understanding of their day-to-day operational requirements.
We arranged for our engineer to carry out a site visit to take a look at the room and the existing equipment. The engineer took the opportunity to discuss what the customer wanted to achieve with the room and how it was to be used.
The Proposal![]()
Following the site visit, we quoted the customer for a Central AV Equipment Rack & Audio Processing. This is a centralised rack that manages multi-channel audio feeds, prevents feedback, and guarantees high audio quality. This setup is securely housed in a lockable AV cabinet, and with the function to record audio and save externally to a secure USB hard drive for later record keeping and distributrion purposes.
We suggested adding the individual gooseneck microphones to the system.
Gooseneck Microphones: High-performance, gooseneck microphones were installed across key participant stations—including the Coroner’s bench, witness box, jury area, and advocate tables—ensuring crisp voice capture with minimal ambient noise.
Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) Cameras: - Discreet, high-definition PTZ cameras were positioned to provide full coverage of the room, this can also broadcast onto the large-format display screen at the front of the chamber. Pre-programmed camera presets allow smooth transitions between the Coroner, witnesses, and jury during live and remote hearings.
Large Format Display: A high-visibility commercial screen positioned within clear sightlines of the Coroner, jury, and legal teams, allowing digital evidence, documents, and remote participants to be viewed with absolute clarity.
The Installation
Due to the extensive knowledge of the room cabling and previous jobs completed at the location, the team installed the comprehensive system with minimal disruption at a time the court was available to avoid interruptions of the scheduled proceedings.
The team ensured all products installed had hidden cabling to ensure a tidy and functional setup from the cameras to each gooseneck microphone.
After commissioning, testing and training had been provided to the client, the customer signed off on the works and had the following to say about their experience working with us.
